I want to start my own business in cake decorating, But looking for online free help?
It would be easier for you to learn if you take cake decorating classes. Do you have a Michael's near you? They usually offer them and it should only cost $20 - $30 plus the kit, which you can buy with one of their 40% off coupons. It's much easier to learn when you see someone else doing it. They teach the Wilton method, which someone here mentioned. Wilton's website has recipes for different frostings. Buttercream frosting stays soft. You can still make flowers with it. You will learn there are 3 consistencies of icing. Thin, medium, and stiff. You use thin to ice your cake, medium for borders and stiff for flowers. There's also royal icing. Royal icing doesn't have any shortening in it and it gets hard. Some people make flowers out of royal icing and then put them on the cakes after they harden. Wilton also puts out year books. They show different cakes that you can make using their special cake pans, usually have some recipes and show other products for sale. I think there are also some instructions for making some decorations. You should be able to find the year book at Michael's or Walmart. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.
Reply:Your best bet if you are looking for online instructions is www.CakeCentral.com. Which is honestly like the best cake site out there. It has articles, tutorials, message boards, etc. I really really suggest you visiting it.

If you haven't already I would go to one of your local craft stores. Stores like Michaels, Joann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby etc offer wilton cake decorating classes. Here where I live there are three wilton classes I, II, and III the first for beginner and the other two for intermediate. Then there is a gumpaste and fondant class, and a flowers class too. You can learn almost everything there is to learn in these classes. The good thing about the Wilton classes is they are all suppose to be the same. So if you wanted to take wilton I at one facility, then Wilton II at another facility - that would be ok.

Something else I would suggest, and this will prob help you more than anything, is to join a few yahoo cake decorating part ofgroups. There are a few i'm a part of, and they have been invaluable. If you have a simple question about ondant, to technique, to pricing, there are tons of people with more experience and expertise that are willing to help you out.
Reply:I have found several sites you might want to check out.

I hope these work.. Good luck..
Reply:The Wilton website has this information too. You really should take some kind of class to help you out instead of trying to learn everything on your own. It's nice you want to start your own business, but I'd be hesitant to buy from someone without any proper training. My son works in a bakery and he's on his third year of kitchen experience and will be attending Le Cordon Bleu. His executive pastry chef went to Le Cordon Bleu and the soux pastry chef went to Johnson %26amp; Wales. The more education you get get, the better it'll be for your business. **The hardened flowers are made from royal icing. This will be on the website too.
